Ghanan Ghanan : The Rahman Factor

While browsing thru some 50 odd channels today, watched the ghanan ghanan from Lagaan after a long time. Mind blowing folk number. I was just imagining the day when AR Rahman who have sat to compose it. ARR, his keyboard and some beautiful music . Great combination. Probably aamir and ahutosh who have told him the situation and would have waited for sometime for the inspiration from rahman. All 3 would have aspired but would have not felt that the numbers they are going to make for this movie are gonna be seen by people all over the world. I don't have words to describe rehman's music in lagaan. Though I love all his other movies, Laggan was a class apart.

Thats how Roja sounded 11 years back and i didn't believe a 17 yr old guy had composed Kadhal Rojavey (Roja Janeman in Hindhi version). Thats was a totally different sound for my ears and for all in India. I would like to go back and imagine the amount of aspiration and fire that Rahman would have had when Mani Ratnam asked him to compose for Roja. Genius finds another genius.

These eleven years of celluloid medium has made rahman a very mature person. With Laggan and Kannathil Muthamittal ( A Peck in the cheek - Mani Ratnam's latest tamil film about srilankan refugees) AR has moved from the masses to the classes and we hope he makes even the masses to move to the classes.
Kiska Band Bajega :

Saw Channel V Popstars today. These girls seem to have a atitude for being popstars. I think it a novel and a welcoming effort by Channel V . Shuba Mudgal was amazing as a Judge. Sandeep Chowda is slightly an overdoer. But his "Kallas" in Company was composed so well and picturised too well. Isha Gopikar is now the latest vamp of bollywood. Her club dance for Kallas is really a kallas. keep it up isha!!!

Spoil the movies :

Nidhi did a great job in rediff on writing the article on the movie spoiler websites. These websites actually tell you the whole story of the movie by a quickie and it also tells the final ending of a movie. Endings of Movies like The Unbreakabale and The Sixth Sense shouldn't be read here in these websites . They have to be seen and felt. Unbreakable is one of my all time favourites. It is one of the movies where there wasn't any clue about the end. During the climax I found myself getting of my seat in the theatre and started clapping, Thrilled !!!. My friends thought i became crazy. What an amazing shot the final one was when Bruce willis shakes hands with S....No No I don't wanna say who it is . I am not a movie spoiler. Enjoy the unbreakable.
The Singles Club

The rediff diary always make me laugh out. It is one of the finest freelancing arena for guys lie us who have no idea on journalism. Just speak your mind out. the one that i read lately is a great one.G O Suresh talks on perils of bachelorhood. Poor Bachelors !!! Pity them but just a minute, Oops I forgot some thing , I am one of them still.

Pulp Fiction
After a long exile with classics, I am back to pulp fiction again with Sidney Sheldon's rage of angels for the 4 th time. Last weekend when i was in the library, I thought of picking up page turners for a break. Sidney was the first name which came to my mind. he amazes me with his vivid descriptions .He is certainly the king of pulp fiction and one of my all time fav author after Richard Bach. Will certainly write about my love for bach some time. it is already 1:00 am and i am sleepy.aahww!!!

Karthy 'n' Bryan Adams

Y'day a group of friends of mine were discussing over a coffee about a birthday gift given to your boy/girl friend. Karthy said she was worried one full day because she spent too much money for her boy friend to get him a diamond locket. oh !! oh !! . Ram interuppted her on a emotional line to approve money isn't bigger than love !! Well, this argument continues forever. Today to establish his words, Ram forwardded us the lyrics of "When you love someone " by Bryan Adams asking karthy to learn from this. I liked it and probably you too !!

When you love someone

when you love someone - you'll do anything
you'll do all the crazy things that you can't explain
you'll shoot the moon - put out the sun
when you love someone

you'll deny the truth - believe a lie
there'll be times that you'll believe you can really fly
but you're lonely nights - have just begun
when you love someone

when you love someone - you'll feel it deep inside
and nothin else can ever change your mind
when you want someone - when you need someone
when you love someone...

when you love someone - you'll sacrifice
you'd give it everything you got and you won't think twice
you'd risk it all - no matter what may come
when you love someone
you'll shoot the moon - put out the sun
when you love someone

The happy-go-lucky creativists (!!!??) :
Offlate, i have been thinking about the jobs of people in creative arts. Unlike others, they have a very pleasant life from which they derive inspiration for their creative outbursts. Imagine Mani Ratnam's daily routine : get up late, have a coffee, read newspaper, water gardens, take bath , watch movies, meet for the story discussion , come back home for lunch etc. When i was discussing this with a like-minded friend , he suddenly turned the table and started an argument that creative people are at risk of their career and family. I agreed to him that there is a lot of risk involved in creative arts area . If u fail, then you are out. After 5 coffees and 3 hours of hot hot discussion we saw some light at the end of the tunnel when we came to a understaning of involving creative expression in whatever work we do. Like, while doing a software design show how creative you can be. If u are clerk , show creativity in maintaining books of accounts.

Thinking back, I am skeptical about that idea. Is that possible?. These suggestions do work out temporarily. On the long run , you get fizzled out in 2 to 3 moths again. Probably people who disike mundane life should landup in a job of their love and passion. Like how you give a child a toy of building blocks and instruct is he/she can build it , then he/she will be awarded a chocolate. wow, what a deal. happiness in return for doing something that gives me happiness. I like it ...but still I love to be Mani Ratnam and enjoy the finer aspects of life. huh!!

The Academy at its best :
Disappointed. one billion people were dissapointed in india when "no man's land " broke the Lagaan dream. Thats fine. But the point is that, when are we gonna leave this comedy of sending out indian films to oscars. Oscar awards are given away for english films mainly taken in hollywood. Lets stop this joke from this year atleast and lets create an award for which the hollywood should send films to recieve this award. This is not a shout of an angry indian who is disappointed for not getting the oscar this year.
Whats is happy is that African americans got the honour this year and the academy should be appreciated for that. Denzel washington is worth the oscar.Morgan Freeman is also a deserving actor who needs to be honoured. If you would have seen The Shawshank Redemption, you will agree.

An Ode to the networked world :
This poem ( can it be called as a poem ??) was written by me during a speaker's forum in my company . I had basically no big facts to harp on, so i thought of getting my point across by a small poem. Quite a few people say that is in the lines of a similar poem which floated in the net. I am oblivious to that . This is my CREATIVITY !!! you see .

An ode to the networked world

Gone are the days when played games on the road,
Today we code on the road with laptop.

Gone are the days when we stood to watch birds
Today we see and hear them in mpeg files.

Gone are the days when we sat to chat with friends on grounds,
Today we chat in rooms

Gone are the days when we carry watterbottles and chips to movies
Today we watch them in our e-PCs

Gone are the days when we sit back in our father's swinging chairs and read Alice in Wonderland
Today we purchase them for 1 dollar a chapter and read it from our monitors

Gone are the days when i write such poems in the last pages of my rough notebook
Today i type them in my notepad

Gone are the days when we have marriages for 3 days including baarath
Today we meet at baarat.com, wedding.com and reception.com

( A decade later )

Gone are the days when we have panel discussions in dinning halls
Today we meet using video conferencing in the virtual office.

( 50 years later)

Gone are the days when i used to meet people ...i mean real people...
Today i met my creator.... he was real..he was a human
and i am his creation ....I am a ROBOT.
My friend quits celibacy:
He is a mad at Metallica. Crazy about Bryan Adams. We used to wonder who is gonna marry him including his ex-girl. the saying somewhere someone is born for you has become true. he is engaged to a girl whom he describes as one of the girls who make sense while talking. Hey, thats his opinion....not mine. He is excited about the whole stuff but this sets me thinking on grounds on psychology of a man who gets ditched for no mistake of him. Does the man think all girls are crazy ? Does he think all girls are useless? . Ram, Please answer!!!

why do i blog - A Question for the innerself
I have thinking about this for the whole of last week and have reached a probable conclusion. I blog just for one major reason , blogging. But there is more to it. You will certainly become a full-time blogger if u have a taste for writing. And just in case you have the fire to write , you will probably be blogging all the day long.
I have one more tangential thought about a blogger . He who needs to express himself and his thoughts and feels that his thoughts might prove informative and useful should ceratinly blog. So guys !!! carry the can of bloggine !! Welcome Bloggers!!!.

Cellular Wars - The need of the day
Well, I have a RPG connection and whats bad about it. It doesn't have cell mail facility. While most of my friends are hooked on to AirTel, they even persuaded me for Air Tel, I had a NO. Why?. Because AirTel doesn't have good signals as RPG but AirTel has cell mail. Oops ! I am confused and finally decided to get back to RPG because it makes no sense if I have a mobile connection with no signals.

But the point here is that most people are saying RPG is suffering from slow death. Now thats a worrying state of affairs for a metropolitan state like chennai. So much of demand here for a good cellular provider but hmmm!!! noone here to listen to us. One saviour might be the ad that i saw this morning about TATA coming to chennai with a whole lot of services including mobiles and broad band. We still have hopes of a good telecommunication service in chennai. Lets welcome TATA with hands w i d e open.

Fountain Head - Revisited :
I have started reading The FountainHead again for the 8th time. This is the only book gives me a different meanings everytime i read it. Howard Roark amazes me with his eccentricity and Ayn Rand brings out the genius in him. One character that will always linger in your mind . There are many instances, when some of my crucial decisions were indirectly influenced by howard. The real GOD FATHER !!
